ZigBee Alliance Open House - Dec 8, Hong Kong

ZigBee Alliance Open House - Dec 8, Hong Kong

Press, analysts, and interested companies are invited to the ZigBee Alliance Open House. Hear ZigBee experts and see member company demonstrations.

ZigBee is picking up steam, right on schedule (about 3 years behind the original plan) so if you want to board the train, this might be the time. Not to mention it's a great time to be in Hong Kong!

WiCon - O Oct 5-6, Santa Clara, CA

Wireless Connectivity (WiCon) Americas is the one stop shop for wicon solutions in the US. It is the only high-level conference and exhibition to cover all the key technologies in the wicon space including Bluetooth, NFC, UWB, WiFi, WiMAX and ZigBee. Learn more and register at: www.wiconamericas.com.

This is definitely a good place for COMPARING the various technologies because they'll all be here. It'll also be telling as to where each standard is in the development process, REALLY. And without the overbearing shadow of cellular/3G, the focus will be on short range devices and unlicensed frequency bands.

And you can get a free Exhibits badge and go to free seminars!

wVoIP: Market Threat or Opportunity? Sept 13-14 San Jose, CA

From the literature:

wVoIP 2005 is the world's first executive summit dedicated to the fast-emerging field of wireless VoIP. Join the world's leading telecom, wireless, and VoIP technology leaders to discuss key topics in this emerging industry. By participating, you will uniquely position yourself as a technology pioneer.

Honestly sounds like a good question (answer;BOTH), but does it need a dedicated conference and two days? And lots of "technology pioneers" became roadkill, so be careful of what you wish for.

UWB & Mesh Networking - October 17-19 San Jose, CA

Mesh Networking Forum - October 17-19, 2005 - San Jose, CA USA
Ultrawideband World 2005 - Oct 18-19, San Jose, CA

Hear case studies and success stories from vendors & solutions providers, system integrators, and end users, who are leading the charge in deploying Mesh networks. Focuses on both the enterprise and consumer markets.Register here

UWB World 2005, co-located with Mesh Networking, will feature expert perspectives on best strategies for bringing UWB products to market. It's your opportunity to learn from all market segments including chip makers, electronics manufacturers and technology retailers.

Bundling these shows is smart, IMO, since the short range and high bandwidth of UWB would favor, in certain cases, a mesh network topology. Still, though they work great together, they can (and will) be used separately.

ZigBee Open House - September 14 in Chicago

ZigBee_Open_House.jpg

ZigBee is holding another event for press, analysts and any interested companies or individuals to come and learn what the ZigBee Alliance is all about. The Open House will begin at 9:00AM, followed by an evening reception. This event is free of charge.

150 members strong, Zigbee is certainly starting to create some "buzz". I truly believe that, if they stay true to their early focus of low power control and telemetry, that Zigbee has a bright future. Zigbee offers the "upper" protocol layers for IEEE 802.15.4 devices to network and interoperate and offers the promise of true "shrinkwrap" wireless consumer products. For now, however, Zigbee has found most of it's successes in industrial applications like container tracking or highrise HVAC and systems.

Wireless Sensing Solutions - Sept 27-28 Chicago

Wireless Sensing Solutions

Unlike so many other wireless conferences, this one appears to know what it is, and is focusing on providing depth in the wireless sensing space. This market is extremely significant and (IMO) is very much underestimated. If your business is in low power telemetry, location, or control, you should be there.
